As an A&P Human Resources Director (2012-current) supporting Facilities Operations and Development, Planning and Real Estate, Uniprint, and Shared Services, Laura oversees the recruiting and selection of department personnel, wage and salary administration, performance management and staff recognition initiatives, employee and labor relations, and records maintenance. She helped design and transition staff to the human resources model currently in use and has been instrumental in streamlining and improving hiring, performance management, and rewards and recognition, and employee engagement strategies. In May 2015, Laura was designated the Chief Diversity Officer for Administration and Planning. She currently serves as the chair of the A&P Diversity Council, which was established under her leadership. Together with the Diversity Council and the Senior Leadership team, she developed a diversity mission, vision, and goals. In recognition of the council’s many achievements during its first year, they received the University’s Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award in 2016.
Laura began her professional career with the Office of Collective Bargaining serving as one of the first Labor Relations Consultants for that office and a core member of three bargaining teams for the State of Ohio’s first collective bargaining agreements. She moved to the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission (now Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities) as its first Labor Relations Manager, where she served in numerous HR roles for more than two decades. She ended her 30-year career with the State of Ohio as the Personnel Administrator for the Department of Corrections, overseeing recruitment, selection, compensation and benefits, and performance management for more than 13,000 employees and 30 correctional facilities statewide. Laura joined The Ohio State University shortly after her retirement from the state in fall 2011.
Laura received her B.A. in Psychology (1979) and Masters in Public Administration and Masters in Labor and Human Resources (1983), all from Ohio State. Laura is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
