| Department of Public Safety | From: Richelle Williams
A high priority incident occurred back to back days 9/16/24 & 9/17/24. The first day, the situation evolved rapidly for a long time, the stress was high, demands of camera operations and dispatchers were endless. Dispatcher Murnane did an outstanding job on the radio - communicating with the officers, providing live updates, executing each request quickly and keeping note of their location as officer safety is #1 priority. Dispatcher Shepherd took a high volume of calls and also documented the information needed to piece together the incident as it occurred. Supervisor Bolt was helping dispatchers and manning cameras simultaneously but, as always, was easy to approach and talk to with questions and direction on what to do or who to call. The second day, Dispatcher Whetsel did a phenomenal job on the radio -controlling the situation that was again rapidly evolving, anticipating the needs of the officers, providing live updates and handling all of the requests being asked. Dispatcher shepherd again took calls and documented the information as it occurred. I truly believe a great deal of the success during these two days is owed to AVM Aubrey Timmons. Without her quick and skilled camera work to confirm details, locations, descriptions as the demands poured in, it would not have been possible. She stayed calm and collected, with a great attitude, the whole way through on both days. It is great to be part of such a wonderful team!

I made a phone call last Friday Sept 13, to have an office painted for our Associate Vice President to move into and there were spots on the wall where pictures were hung and removed. John had Darren VanWinkle come over on Monday Sept. 16 to patch the holes and he painted the whole office in one day. It looks awesome and I just wanted to thank both of you for the rush job and I greatly appreciate your great customer service.

She also kept me up to date on everything that was happening in my case without me asking, which was also a huge help. Misty also made sure I talked to the right people to make this process quick. I have never had something so bad, go so smooth and I truly thank Misty for that. I can tell Misty cares for her customers.
I'm not the only one who notices this, when I asked who to go to about my paycheck issue a couple people said Misty along with how helpful she has always been.
Thank you Misty!!

This group volunteered to work the university's 437th commencement ceremony. They set-up the stage, delivered diploma boxes to the Schottenstein Center, and delivered mail out and pick-up diplomas to the SAS Building. At the conclusion of the ceremony, they broke down the stage, sorted diploma boxes that needed to go to SAS and Blankenship and returned all items to storage in a timely and efficient manner. This group of individuals joined together to ensure the university's 437th commencement ceremony was a celebration for the graduates and their families to remember for many years. This group set-up the line-up signs for the graduates to ensure they received their actual diploma, passed out programs and photo cards to the graduates and/or carried the diploma boxes to the stage for the college deans to pass out to the happy graduates. Although it often seems these efforts go unnoticed, one of the photographers working the event commented she was, "very impressed with the level of professionalism displayed by the staff" that handled the diploma boxes on stage. She stated that she has worked graduations throughout the country, including Ivy League schools and we were the most professional in performing these tasks.

Bryan and Darren can be relied on every spring to hang the wayfinding signage at Ohio Stadium ensuring the graduating classes get to their correct seating location. In addition, they place signs for the reserved sections, wheelchair access seating and accessible seating, as well as special signage such as for the photographers and the press. Kevin's sacrifice in giving up a staff member during such a busy time for his areas is greatly appreciated. Bryan's 19 years of experience hanging these signs ensured the process went quickly and smoothly with all signs being placed in the correct location. This will ensure students, faculty and staff end up in the proper seating location on commencement day. On behalf of the almost 10,000 students receiving their diplomas in-person on Sunday, thank you so much Kevin!

This group of FOD staff members volunteered to work Ohio State's 436th Commencement Ceremony at the graduate line-up sites at French Field House or RPAC. They represented the department in exemplary fashion by handing out programs and photo cards and helping graduates find their line-up spots. This is especially important so that each graduate receives their actual diploma during the ceremony. While FOD staff often work behind the scenes to keep campus functioning, this is an opportunity to be front and center for our staff and they shined in doing their tasks this day ensuring the graduates and families all had a happy and special day. As the university celebrated its 436th Commencement Ceremony, it was this group who ensured it was such a special day for the graduates and their families. They ensured the stage was set-up, the field was lined with scarlet and gray topped tables and delivered the nearly 10,000 diplomas from Blankenship Hall to the stadium field. Ensuring the diploma boxes were placed in the proper order they played a major role in the university accomplishing what few schools of this size attempts, i.e., each graduate receives their actual degree during the graduation ceremony. Afterwards, this group tore down the stage and field to return everything to storage so that the stadium was ready for Athletics to get back to business. Their efforts are greatly appreciated by me and the Commencement Office staff.

On February 7th, 2024 my father passed away to liver disease. With no sick time/vacation time/comp time available to use to take some time off to grieve. I returned to work the next day, and went thru the motions of life. Kwami had learned of my father passing a few days later thru conversation. Kwami took it upon himself to start the process of donating 3 days (24 hours) of his own vacation time to me. I personally did not know and thought I was fine until this time was donated to me how much I was not simply ok. As being at work and going thru the motions did not allow me to grieve in any manner. This selfless act, although Kwami works extremely hard. He took it upon himself to donate the time and see the process thru so I had the time to process the passing of my father and spend time with my family. I cannot begin to thank Kwami for his time, thoughtfulness and wiliness to treat his fellow officer as family. I am forever in Kwami's debt.

I do not know the employee, but I would like to recognize him. Today, on 6/16/23, I was given a sincere greeting from MC bus #1804. Mornings can drag down the mood. Yet, He took his time to greet every passenger with a bow and smile. This may have been a cultural norm, but it was refreshing and started my day with more bliss. I thank him for the sincerity and hard work.

Facilities staff typically work behind the scenes to keep the university functioning, but this is one occasion when our staff is out in front for all the university to witness our dedication to our students and faculty. These folks are among almost 30 FOD staff who perform a variety of duties before, during and after the ceremony from setting up the stage, to covering the diploma boxes to protect against the elements, to delivering the diplomas to the graduation site and uncovering them during the ceremony to folding the hoods that are presented to the PhD students. These dedicated staff helped to guarantee a happy and joyous 344th Commencement Ceremony for our graduates and their families and the ceremony simply could not occur without their efforts. They are greatly appreciated for all they do to help our department shine for all the campus to see.

Jon and Harold played a special role in the 433rd Commencement Ceremony of The Ohio State University on May 7, 2023. They placed FOD front and center on the big stage as they were tasked with moving the PhD diploma boxes to the middle of the stage during the awarding of diplomas. In addition, Jon was responsible for setting out the line-up signs at the French Field House and RPAC to make sure graduates lined up in the correct spots so that they would receive their actual diploma. Ohio State is the only school of this size to give students their diploma during the ceremony and that would simply be impossible if they did not line up in the proper order. Jon's contributions ensure this happens for each commencement ceremony.

Wayfinding is important, especially when trying to get 9000 plus graduates in their correct spot with the stadium for commencement, not to mention getting their parents and relatives in their seats for the special day. Darren and Bryan have volunteered to brave the weather to hang the signage within the stadium numerous years. I know I can hand off the diagram to them and the project will be taken care of with minimal direction from me. Their efforts may not be observed by the attendees at graduation but the results of their efforts ensure a smooth, care-free day for both graduates and their families. I very much appreciate what they do and I'm sure, if others saw their efforts, they would be much appreciated by all.

However, none of them will realize the hard work this group of individuals from FOD did to move the tables, chairs, podiums, bases and poles for signage, etc., to Ohio Stadium, the French Field House and to RPAC. Without the tireless efforts of this group, the daunting task of holding a ceremony such as this would simply not be possible. On Monday May 1st, there were two very large piles of trash from student move-out next to dumpsters at Smith/Steeb and Park/Stradley. The landscape crew was faced with repeatedly cleaning up loose trash blowing around from the wind. I contacted Tim Bell about the issue. Tim and Corey Craig quickly responded, drove a trash truck to the area and assisted the landscape crew with loading up the overflow trash and hauling it away. Without Tim's and Corey's assistance, the landscape crew would have had to spend the entire day picking up loose litter that would have been blowing around the South area of campus. Thank you Tim and Corey for going above and beyond to resolve the issue!

Lucille is a good resource steward in that way. These individuals worked various football Saturdays coming in hours before the games to set-up for the marching band's skull sessions and putting everything away at the conclusion of the band's performance. This year we once again had to work around the athletics department's exercise equipment that remained on the arena floor. Also, this year more than in other years we were asked with short notice to set-up layouts bigger than the normal set-up that we do with the marching band since they collaborated with other schools to perform together and the alumni band had more attendees than in past years. This group always made sure the seating arrangements were in place in plenty of time for the band's performance. The work these individuals do is more often than not done before the crowds arrive at St. John Arena and their hard work is overlooked. But the band would not be known as TBDBTL were it not for these hardworking, behind-the scenes staff members' dedication.

The Wooster Campus experienced a power outage after severe storms swept through the area damaging electrical infrastructure and rendering the campus without power that was estimated that it would be out the entire week. Members of FOD were dispatched on-site to assist. Rob and Chris were instrumental in reviewing the campus needs and communicating back to Columbus for manpower and material. There were check-in meetings at least twice a day to analyze items, decisions and act quickly. They worked non-stop for hours as generators arrived in the evening and throughout the middle of the night to bring buildings back online. In addition, this was not just any week, the temperatures soared into the high 90’s. Crews were exhausted, and everyone worked through the night without any sleep and into the next day. Rob was calling for replacement for the exhausted electrical crews, but he was not included in that replacement. He may have sat in a chair for a few and propped his feet up but was determined to stay the course until every generate was on-line. After 30+ hours without sleep, Rob finally found a comfy couch in a lobby of a building to take a 2-hour nap before making the 3-hour journey home. Even after the generators were connected, Rob was on vacation, he was still calling me with ideas and thoughts. After the power was restored, or partially….there was a high voltage line down and Chris led the effort to decommission and collect all items and ensure every item was returned to the correct location. There was an abundance of cables, 10 generators, 4,600 pounds of dry ice delivered and where were all the coolers, cords everywhere plugging in equipment, fans keeping animals cool and research areas cool. In addition, generators were being moved around since the high voltage line was not working and there was a building that needed a generator for an unknown duration. So, adjustments were being made and Chris was on site to provide guidance to the contractors and coordination with AEP. Rob and Chris worked until it was done and never stopped. Their dedication, determination, and perseverance were noticed by everyone. This shout out is only a small token of my appreciation.

The CPD officer was bleeding from the head and parts of his duty belt was strewn about the roadway (including his service weapon). Ofc. N. Laurie was her usual helpful self when we needed wireties at the last minute to hang signs. The Stockroom team shined in helping to make Spring Commencement a special day for our graduates and their families.

Christina Brown deserves special accolades for her assistance with this year's Spring Commencement. I did not have the support of two key figures I usually have during commencement and Christina stepped up and filled their roles. For rehearsal, she made sure signs were in place for the graduates and waited at French Field House for programs to be delivered. On the day of graduation itself, Christina served as the point of contact at the fieldhouse helping students find their places and passing out programs. During the ceremony itself, Christina changed into business attire and assisted on stage exchanging diploma boxes when necessary. Christina did all these extra things with a cheerful attitude, a smile on her face all while serving as a great ambassador for FOD. Her help was greatly appreciated!

The dedication of the FOD team in making commencement a wonderful day always astounds me and makes me proud to be part of such a tremendous group.

Troy is an Alarm and Video Monitor for the Department of Public Safety. His role was instrumental in two recent arrests, including a breaking and entering in progress and a warrant apprehension. Troy has phenomenal knowledge of campus geography and use of our extensive camera system. In both of these incidents, Troy was able to pin-point the location of a subject so patrol officers could make apprehensions. In the first case, we were able to return thousands of dollars worth of construction equipment back to contractors working on projects around campus. I appreciate Troy's attentiveness, effort, and dedication to safety for the University community.

Collectively Night Watch officers have been very appreciative of the effort put forth by dispatchers and AVM’s. Their work continues to positively impact our safety and success while on patrol. As we are unable to nominate an entire team, night watch has agreed to nominate Dispatch Supervisor Alex Bolt as the April Employee of the Month.Dispatch Supervisor Bolt has been instrumental to the continued achievements of night watch. Dispatch Supervisor Bolt has continued to have open, receptive, and positive dialogue with both night watch officers and night watch supervisors. His attention to detail and tenacious review of available camera footage has resulted in valuable and relevant safety information being disseminated to officers and our community. Dispatch Supervisor Bolt’s work this month has directly aided in the identification and apprehension of multiple suspects. Dispatch Supervisor Bolt continues to be innovative as he strives to master our new Flock program. On his own volition, Bolt has rapidly learned the intricacies of this program to directly help officers on patrol. His contributions have positively impacted officers from OSU PD and the Columbus Division of Police. Bolt recognizes the potential of this new program and spends ample time figuring out how to solve complex problems with the software provided.

I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you about your various team members and how they helped ensure a successful leadership tree planting ceremony at the medical center last Friday 4/22.First, Steve Schneider has been with the planning team the whole time for probably 9 months of planning for this event with Dean Kress, Dean Bradford, Dr. Thomas, and Jay Anderson. He ensured that the tree was ordered, ready to go, and planted for the day of the event. But more than that – he was the first one there when I arrived at 7am and helped me to work through some logistical issues regarding power and some items that needed to be moved off the ceremony area. He was always jumping up to help and ensure that it went smoothly. He even provided tech support when the podium microphone stopped working! Just above and beyond, and I can’t say thank you enough times.Second, due to poor planning on my part, I needed an additional extension cord to bring power from the parking garage to the podium microphone. I called Mike Lyles cell phone, and he put me in touch immediately with Ryan Gunderson. Ryan dropped everything he was working on to come over with two extension cords, help me set it up, and set it up in a safe way. He was friendly, helpful, and ready to go above and beyond what I had even asked by getting a ladder to drape the power cord above the entrance to the parking garage. He ensured that we had power, and that it was set up safely – all with 30 minutes notice!Third, we had reached out to Todd ahead of the event to help us move tables, but I asked him and Jeremy to provide an extension cord on the morning of as well (yes, we ultimately needed 5 extension cords). Jeremy and another team member (sorry, I didn’t catch their name!) helped to bring the tables out in addition to the outdoor extension cord, and collect it when we were done. They were also very friendly and helpful to ensure we could make this happen! It ended up being a great and successful event, and in large part thanks to the unseen individuals on this email. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience, and to give credit where credit is due. I really felt part of the team and supported by all of FOD on that day, and I can’t tell you how much that meant to me.

I recently started working in the Math Building in October. I work 5 days a week on campus and am fortunate to have a window where I look out at beautiful trees that change through the seasons. But this week, when I walked in, I smelled a beautiful scent of lilacs. I looked around and saw them and wanted to express my appreciation for how that wonderful scent uplifted my mood as I walked in. It really does make for a more pleasant day to have such beautiful nature around. I also notice all the hard working folks who work on keeping the trees trimmed, the grass cut, the leaves removed and the landscape always looking fabulous.

I also notice a lot of campus tours of prospective students and parents going by. So not only does the beautiful landscape impact me, but it also has an impact on future students’ choice to attend Ohio State.

Please pass on my thanks to everyone on the team.

Both Jennifer Napier and Brian Wesney quickly stepped up to assist Mr. Frankland and tend to his immediate needs. Both stepped up and went above and beyond to help provide care and comfort to our guest.Dear Mr. Dorne:April 16, 2022It was often remarked during my years spent in the military that when people do good things above andbeyond what is required, they should be recognized for their efforts. That is my purpose for writing youthis letter. This letter is to inform you of the outstanding actions taken by two of your employees, Ms. JenniferNapier and Mr. Brian Wesney, in assisting me the morning of April 13th 2022 in the parking lot outsideDodd Rehabilitation Hospital. I had intended to park there while my wife was undergoing cancertreatments. I had gotten some items out of the back of my vehicle and as I came around it from theback to put the items in the front seat, I tripped on the parking block sticking out past the rear tire andfell heavily, striking my head on the concrete surface of the parking space. My head immediately beganbleeding heavily.Ms. Napier happened to be driving past at that moment and saw me fall and immediately knew thatthere was a significant chance that I could be badly injured. She immediately stopped her bus, came tome and offered any assistance she might be able to provide. Shortly after Ms. Napier stopped, Mr.Wesney drove past and immediately saw what was happening and also stopped. He brought papertowels from his vehicle for me to use to control the bleeding and said he would drive me over to theEmergency Room across the mall as soon as I was ready to go. Ms. Napier ensured the security of myvehicle, made sure I had the keys. and told me she would watch it as she drove her route until l couldreturn. I mentioned to her that I had not yet purchased my parking ticket and was concerned that itmight be towed. I found out later that she spoke with you and you had her take a photo of the licenseplate and exempted it from having to pay to park there for 24 hours. For that l also thank you verymuch. As soon as I w as ready Mr. Wesney quickly assisted me into his van and drove me over to the ERand went inside with me to ensure I was taken care of quickly. As I write this letter today, my scrapes and bruises are healing rapidly and I am sure that it is partiallybecause of the efforts of these two outstanding individuals. They bring great credit upon themselvesand the organization they work for.I truly owe both Ms. Napier and Mr. Wesney a debt of gratitude for their actions and assistance. I wanted to give Kudos to Officer Trey Duplessie on how he handled police report P2022-00507. OSU PD received a call about a person in crisis in the area of the Ohio Union Parking Garages. We located Connor Murphy and Officer Duplessie spoke with him, ultimately determining that he was not in crisis. Murphy explained that he was recently evicted from his apartment and was trying to get back on his feet. He has only told his sister and his best friend about him being homeless and was too scared to tell his parents. Murphy is only 23 years old. We tried to offer him rides to a friend's house, the hospital, MaryHaven or a homeless shelter. He was very adamant about staying close to campus because he had several job interviews the following morning that he didn't want to miss. We offered to drive him to a hotel and Murphy was calculating whether that would be a good use of his last $200. Ultimately, he decided that he would rather spend the night on the street than pay for a room for the night. Murphy was starting to get emotional as he realized he didn't have a good option for the night.Officer Duplessie offered to pay for a room for the night. Murphy started to cry and said that he couldn't accept that. Officer Duplessie insisted that he was happy to pay for the room so he could get a good night's sleep to be ready for his interviews. Murphy agreed to Officer Duplessie's offer, and he drove him to the Red Roof Inn at Ackerman and Olentangy. Murphy was extremely appreciative. I'm extremely proud to work alongside Officer Duplessie and I believe he exemplifies our core values. I don't want his good deed to go unnoticed. Thanks, Officer Doug Welker

Since we only have one working front load truck, they staggered their schedules to pick up the trash first and then the recycle. On Friday 1/14/21. I realized I had a dead battery when I got off work at Martha Morehouse tower building. I called security but he was unable to help jump start my vehicle. So I called the non emergency osu pd number and asked if anyone could please help me, the dispatcher was very nice and said he would send help. Officer Chambers came within 10 min and help get my car started and gave me good advice on where to go and what to do next. He was professional and friendly and I really appreciated the help he gave me.

Will is a wonderful staff member because his work encompasses all five categories: resource stewardship, going above and beyond, provides great customer service, team player & collaborator, and values diversity and inclusion. I take advantage of OSU's CABS services for several reasons and because I live in the area. I was impressed with the way Will goes above and beyond in his valuing of diversity and inclusion when we crossed paths in the Ohio Union and he recognized me. He went on to ask how I'm doing and then shared that he tries to remember who our students are. In a campus of over 66,000 students (and of course not everyone utilizes transportation services), it can be easy to simply provide a service to students. As someone who always feels a gap in my sense of belonging at institutions of higher education, people like Will stand out to me. It is these small acts of kindness and the going above and beyond to make folks feel included (to demonstrate the kindness within our humanity) that make my experience at OSU noteworthy and mentionable. I look forward to continuing to use CABS and see Will on the journey both to and from campus.

They moved heavy tables, set-up chairs and other equipment, often in some of the coldest temperatures we've experienced this year. They all pitched in with cheerful attitudes and a "can-do" spirit to make sure the University was ready for the 10,000 plus covid tests that were taken to ensure campus stays healthy and can concentrate on its commitment to in-person learning for this semester.

On September 2, 2021, OSUPD Officers Ward, Becker, Tabor, and Linton responded to the Tech Hub because an elderly male (84) had collapsed and was not breathing. A store employee and customer started CPR on the man. When Tabor and Linton arrived they took over aid by using an AED and performing CPR. They correctly attached the AED which delivered a total of four shocks. The officers conducted numerous compression cycles while waiting for CFD. All officers on scene were calm and collected and performed very well under the stressful circumstances. The responding medics praised the officers' actions and I was incredibly impressed by their performance. The man left the facility with a pulse and lived until the next morning where he unfortunately passed away at the ED. Officers Tabor and Linton absolutely gave that man his best shot at surviving and did an incredible job. The life-saving measures taken undoubtedly contributed to the man's ability to survive long enough for family and friends to say their final goodbyes at the hospital.

During the overnight hours of Nightwatch at 0250 hours, Officer J. Allen was patrolling the hospital area when he observed a male wearing checkered pants, yelling, and run into the new parking structure off Cannon Drive. While doing a search of the area, he gave a detailed clothing description of the male over the radio and described the suspicious behavior. Officer Allen searched the garage, concerned the male might be suicidal and headed to the roof of the new garage. Shortly after, an e-phone was activated on the running trail just north of the 315 N exit ramp to the medical center. Police dispatcher Merle Vaessin could hear a male on the other end of the distorted line screaming he wanted to end his life. She was able to relay critical information to officers about the e-phone location.Officers arrived and began to search the area of the running trails. During a search of the area, Officer Welker was able to identify unique checkered pants just off the running trail in the vegetation. Critically, the pants matched the description of clothing Officer Allen had provided over the radio. The Columbus Police helicopter was requested to assist in the search but Officer Welker followed the noise of crying and water splashing to the river bank. Through thick vegetation and muddy conditions, Officer Welker found the male in the middle of the river.Simultaneously, Officer Allen arrived at Welker’s location and retrieved the water buoy and rope from his cruiser. Officer Allen brought the equipment to Welker’s location but fortunately Welker did not have to go very far into the water. Utilizing his CIT skills to talk the hysterical male, he was able to convince the person in crisis into coming out of the water on his own. The male was detained and safely transported to the emergency department for treatment. Our Offices were in the right place at the right time but most importantly stayed calm and communicated well with each other as well as dispatch to get this person help. Had our Officers not been there quickly given the higher river levels after recent heavy rains, the male could have completed his suicide attempt or been swept down river.

This is an acknowledgement of our entire landscape crew that were kept buy keeping sidewalks and streets clear so we could keep campus open. When you work on campus you take for granted cleared sidewalks and salted roadways. When you work at home, you have a better picture of the real world. Over the course of three days I sat and watched from my window two cars, a delivery truck, and mail truck get stuck on my cul-de-sac because our little street never gets plowed or treated. I was also fortunate to be able to work from home - something our frontline and essential workers do not have the luxury of being able to do. So even though I'm not on campus, I may appreciate even more the hard work our crews put in when it snows.

A significant recommendation that resulted from the Community Safety and Well-being Task Force was to improve the lighting in the off-campus neighborhoods. One of the key action items was to identify the street lights that were not operational and work with the city to get them fixed. Aaron was able to step up and go above and beyond mapping the locations that were identified. This allowed OSU to clearly communicate the issue to the City of Columbus and expedite the repairs. His skills and willingness to put them to use for this important initiative led to a quick and significant improvement to the safety of our students and neighbors in the University District.

In talking with the regional project managers, the teams had nothing but amazing things to say about Bob in not only how supported they felt, but how confident they felt to continue weekly testing on their own. Police Officer Brian Botkin has demonstrated incredible performance recently. What has caught my attention, specifically, is his dedication to patrolling on bicycle. Bicycle patrol allows police officers to get out of the car and into the community. In our campus environment, it also allows officers to ride and observe in places that are not accessible to a traditional patrol vehicle. Brian recognizes these advantages and rides more than any other officer at the Department. Brian sets high mileage goals for himself, and often meets them. Just the other day, the temperature was over 90 degrees and Brian rode a total of 52 miles during his 8 hour shift! 52 miles, wearing a bullet resistant vest (they do not breathe very well...) and 20 pounds of gear on his waist! As a result of his dedication to bike patrol Brian's skin is incredibly tanned and his red OSU police shoulder patches are faded to a light pink. At the end of his shift he is usually drenched in sweat. Brian recognizes the usefulness and resourcefulness of bike patrol and goes above and beyond in putting the tool to use.

Values Diversity & Inclusion to: Emmet (Bud) Sifford

| Facilities Operations and Development | From: Aaron Moore
I met Bud at an A&P diversity signature program and he was sharing how he approaches his work and how he interacts with the student dispatchers that work at S2F. Bud is someone who values getting to know the people he works with and putting faces with names. He values the opportunity students get to work at S2F and the important job they have in sharing information to prioritize work that needs to get done or an emergency that needs to be addressed. Understanding that the dispatchers don't always know who they are talking to, Bud goes above and beyond to visit the student dispatchers on their shifts to meet them and he even bakes them a good to welcome them to the job, thank them for all they do, and to even explain how what they do impacts the service they deliver. Bud demonstrates what is it to foster an inclusive environment and that knowing people for who they are can make a huge difference when we feel connected to one another as well as connected to the mission of the job! Way to go above and beyond and thank you for sharing how you try to make the place more inclusive!

Demonstrates Resource Stewardship to: Peter Calamari, Brett Garrett

| Facilities Operations and Development | From: Glen Funk
Peter and Brett have been key in restructuring our biennial State capital request, particularly the portion of funding the university uses for major renovations. Previously we requested each project individually; each roof, each HVAC system, each elevator renovation, etc. Through Peter's and Brett's efforts, the renovation projects are now holistically analyzed, projects are grouped by similar type, and our capital request seeks a "bucket " of funding for each project type. This improvement has lead to easy bundling of smaller projects into more efficient larger ones and to streamlined access to the State funds through the Controlling Board.

Goes Above and Beyond to: Mason Myers

| Shared Services | From: Dale Harris
This nomination is in recognition of the excellent work ethic, professionalism, and insightful contributions provided by Mason Myers to members of the AP Excellence team. Since joining the team this summer, Mason continues to exceed expectations in terms of his innovative contributions to the completion of work projects, and his willingness to undertake challenging tasks. One example of his innovative approach to work was seen in his contributions to the Transportation and Traffic Management Customer Satisfaction Survey Project. Upon facing difficulty in soliciting survey responses, real-time from a difficult to target audience, Mason undertook to create and personally distribute QR codes in order that multiple prospective respondents could complete the survey on their smart phones. Another example of his willingness to accept a challenge, was his readiness to learn the visualization tool, Tableau, and to deliver useful output in order to advance another important project.
Such initiative should not go unrecognized, and it is my pleasure to nominate him as an A&P All-Star.

Thank you,
Dale Harris

As capital planning has evolved over the past many years, Amanda and Dan have been great collaborators in developing a process to track an accurate spend, and the amount yet to be spent, for all projects in the approved capital plan. This "yet to be spent" amount, denoted as Prior Commitment, is reported as a component in each capital plan, giving a clear annual snapshot of total future capital spend. The first few cycles that Prior Commitment was reported, we were hoping no one drilled down too rigorously, because some assumptions had to be made where data was not in readily accessible form. However, thanks to Amanda's and Dan's great work, the Prior Commitment numbers are now readily available and driven by solid data.

Goes Above and Beyond to: Kelton Pettay

| Facilities Operations and Development | From: Dan Dunlap
I was sitting here going through the most recent work orders for Mendenhall Laboratory, and it just made me think about what a great job Kelton Pettay is doing here in ML. The initiative he takes to fix problems before they even come to my attention is truly astounding. I wouldn’t even know about half the stuff he does if it wasn’t for the work orders that he creates for things as he fixes them. No dig on people who have preceded him, but the work Kelton has done here in his short time so far just really sticks out.

In his time here in ML, I think he fits the ideal of what was imagined when this new role of his was created. He combines great customer service, excellent proficiency in many areas, and the aforementioned initiative to address issues as he finds them, not just when they’re assigned to him.

Thank you Tracy for helping all your A&P coworkers feel included within the OSU community!

Both John and Phil were properly equipped to handle the job and completed it quickly and efficiently. Two excellent employees from the Campus Shop.

Bryan is our warehouse manager for OSU Extension Publications. He is responsive and quick to remedy a situation. He supervises a team of students who get our publications shipped quickly to our customers in Ohio and around the country. When the students are out, Bryan makes sure our publications are shipped every day. Last year, out of 3658 orders shipped, only 28 orders were outside our 10 day window allowed. And several of those orders were delayed for reasons outside of Bryan's control. That's .007%! Fantastic! Bryan and his team were essential to the reorganization of the warehouse in early 2018. He mastered a new shipping system and has been an integral part of the increased satisfaction from our county customers. Thanks, Bryan! We couldn't do this without you!

I am nominating Nicole Holman as an A&P All-Star for her work that reaches far beyond the office and our professional setting. An A&P colleague of ours recently informed me that a dear, lifelong friend of hers passed away. She found out at work and was overcome by emotion. She went on to tell me that Nicole randomly saw her in said emotional state and proceeded to comfort her in her time of need. She told me Nicole was genuinely concerned for her well-being and did what she could to make sure that employee was okay. Nicole Holman is already a top-notch coworker, but her ability to connect with people and go above in beyond in their time of need speaks volumes of her character and she should be recognized for her stellar leadership and service to A&P.

A planned electrical system outage at Orton Hall, which had taken months to establish, was scheduled for the weekend of August 3rd and 4th. Due to other impacts over that same weekend, a resource gap at Orton Hall for security coverage developed at the last minute. Rather than reschedule the outage, causing more potential impact and inconvenience to the customer (OSU Libraries), Mick Sharron and Al Stazzone voluntarily provided the support on site over the weekend. This is indicative of their approach to their work, voluntarily doing “whatever was necessary” to address the situation. They gave up their personal time over a weekend to minimize the impact to the project and to our customer.
