The Integrated Physical Planning Liaison Group (IPPLG) is providing matching grant funds to support the advancement of Framework 3.0 by updating Columbus and Regional campus spaces that promote student success. As part of the Framework 3.0 planning process, the university identified a need for more informal learning spaces - non-discipline specific spaces frequented by students for self-directed learning activities, socialization, and collaboration.
The Framework Learning Space Grant is available to all colleges/units for improvement of interior and exterior spaces. Interior projects that transform lobby spaces, student lounges, or hallway spaces outside of classrooms into welcoming, collaborative spaces will be prioritized. Flexible, transformative tables and seating, flooring, paint and wall graphics, whiteboards, magazine racks, and electrical upgrades are all examples of updates that are appropriate for informal space grant funding. Exterior projects that improve a space through the addition of site furnishings (benches, tables/chairs, etc.), lighting and paving upgrades will also be prioritized. The spaces between buildings are often overlooked but are important to establishing a strong, cohesive campus.
Applications for grants are being accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis beginning July 1. IPPLG will provide a dollar-to-dollar match with grants ranging from $10,000-$50,000. For example, a project totaling $30,000 would result in the unit paying $15,000 and IPPLG funding $15,000. Units are limited to one grant per year, as funding is limited.
To determine project eligibility, please contact Rebekah Gayley to discuss the project. After determining whether the project meets the goals of the Framework Learning Space Grant, applicants will be expected to work with a representative from Planning, Architecture & Real Estate (PARE) on design concepts to ensure the project meets the university's design guidelines and appropriate space planning principles. An estimated total budget, including the source of the 1:1 match, must be obtained from the Facilities Operations and Development Office. Furniture must be purchased through university contracts.
Applicants must obtain college/unit approvals prior to applying for grant funding. Grants will be awarded until funding is exhausted for the year, with a total of $500,000 available in FY23. Applications must be submitted (10) business days prior to the monthly IPPLG meeting (held on the first Tuesday of each month).
