Cathy Black works in Facilities Operations and Development's Environmental Health and Safety as an environmental safety officer. Her main objective and concern is the safety and well-being of the Ohio State community, with duties that include indoor air quality, ergonomics assessments, potable water sampling, mechanical shop inspection, fume hood certification on regional campus, safety training, and the PERRP (OSHA) 300 logs covering employee accident investigations. Cathy rotates with the staff on emergency response throughout the year, is on the OSHA Safety Day committee and is trained in asbestos sampling. It makes her day when she can help someone.
Cathy is a Navy Veteran, has a degree in Respiratory Therapy, was a pre-school teacher, and drove a FEDEX truck for 15 years. Before coming to Ohio State, she worked in the Middle East. Her greatest joy is her son, who graduated high school in 2022. In her off time, she loves to travel (ask her where she's been!), hanging with her dog, reading, and of course she bleeds scarlet and gray!
